This strange cabinet card portrait of a very young child comes from the Bonine Art Photography studio in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. The poor condition of the image obscures any obvious gender identifying features rendering this young child even more androgynous than he or she looked in real life. Adding to the offsetting nature of the portrait is the very strange pose in which one leg adorned with an overly clunky boot, given the child's age, is extended straight forward while the other is completely invisible. The child also seems to be levitating about a half a foot over the surface of the settee.
